Mourning the loss of my friend Jerry McLeese. His life and character is the foil to those tempted to paint Southerners with a narrow-minded brush. Jerry was a bridge builder in earnest – particularly across communities of faith – genuinely interested in the lived experiences of others, as well as a super kind and funny person (and the dad of one of my favorite people ever). My condolences to all who will miss him here. He is an example to remember.

P.S. Who knew that he was a sportswriter?!

One edit: I’d say that he understood the importance of seeing color and creed as assets.
